For 2025, Atlas Management has a goal to reduce spills and injuries to zero. Recently, a statement was made that stood out to the group and shock us all. Most spills occur after a transfer has been completed! This statement drove us to try and find a way to have our personnel stop once a task or process is complete and revisit the steps to ensure it was done correctly and safely. What we came up with was The Final Touch initiative.
The Final Touch is a slogan that will become part of our daily vocabulary at Atlas Marine Services. Its intention is to remind tankerman in the field, that double checking each process is important to verify that no steps, hazards, or process have been overlooked. The slogan doesn’t only pertain to job completion, but can used during all aspects of a job, from leaving the house or leaving the barge to depart home.
The Final Touch has 5 questions that all Atlas tankerman will know:
STOP, Are we really done?
Did I complete all steps for this task?
Did I assess all hazards?
Is there a spill potential?
Is it safe to walk away from this task?
